I just saw this bit of sad news, Command Sergeant Major Basil L. Plumley (Ret), passed away yesterday at the age of 92.
CSM Plumley was the Command Sergeant Major for the 1/7 Cavalry at the Battle of Ia Drang (Vietnam, 1965), and was played in the movie, We Were Soldiers, by Sam Elliot. I am not going to do the typical thing of most and say something about a passing of another hero. No, all of the Command Sergeant Majors that I have ever known would have ripped your head off and gave you a kick up the arse if you called them a hero. A Command Sergeant Major is better then an hero.
